Details
Have you ever wondered what conservation finance, nature-based solutions, or carbon investing is? Rikesh Patel, Director of Conservation Finance at Conservation International (CI), will be taking us through what the universe of nature-positive investing looks like, and CI's specific approach to originating and investing in nature-positive deals.
Speaker bio: Rik is Director of Conservation Finance at Conservation International (CI). Rik is currently focused on scaling CI Ventures, an investment fund that provides loans and quasi-equity to small- and medium-sized enterprises that operate in the forests, oceans and grasslands where Conservation International works.
Before joining Cl, Rik was based in Kenya as Head of Capital Markets at Open Capital - a management consulting and financial advisory firm focused on sub-Saharan Africa. In a previous life Rik was an investment banker with Santander in London where he primarily focused on structured lending to renewable energy and infrastructure projects. Rik is also a CFA Charterholder.
About Cl: CI, founded in 1987, is one of the world's leading environmental organisations. Combining fieldwork with innovations in science, policy and finance, CI has helped protect more than 6 million square kilometres of land and sea across more than 70 countries. To ensure the long-term protection of critical ecosystems, CI looks for ways to invest in conservation efforts that last. CI has facilitated over USD 500M into nature-based solutions through innovative financing mechanisms.
