CEE Speaker Series: Gordon Bajnai on Private Equity markets and investments in CEE

CEE club is excited to present the next Speaker Series event, a chat with Gordon Bajnai, head of infrastructure and chairman of the advisory board at Campbell Lutyens and former prime minister of Hungary with decades of corporate finance experience from both the sell and the buy side.

As part of the event, Mr. Bajnai will share his views on the private equity fundraising and secondary transaction trends in light of COVID and Brexit as well as the outlook on investments in the CEE region. We will be able to ask him about the key learnings of his extraordinary career that covered the sell side, the buy side and politics from Budapest across Paris to London.

A short summary of his career:

Currently Mr. Bajnai is working as a Partner and Chairman of the Global Advisory Board of Campbell Lutyens. As a partner of the firm, he is in charge of the Global Infrastructure business of the firm.
He also serves on the Investment Committee of the European Fund for Strategic Investments (EFSI) since 01/08 2017.

Between 2014 and 2017 he worked as Group Chief Operating Officer/Directeur Général of Meridiam Infrastucture, the leading global investor and long-term asset manager of greenfield public infrastructure projects.

During 2009 and 2010, Mr. Bajnai served as Prime Minister of the Republic of Hungary, leading the crisis management government as a non-partisan technocrat.
Prior to this, in 2006 he was appointed Government Commissioner in charge of the National Development Plan; then Minister of Local Government and later Minister of National Development and Economic Affairs.

Between 2000 and 2006, he was CEO of the Wallis Group, a leading Hungarian diversified investment company Between 1995 and 2000 he was Managing Director and Deputy CEO of Creditanstalt Investment Bank Hungary.

During his 16 years before joining the government, he was member of the boards/supervisory boards of the following companies: Budapest Airport (Chairman); Zwack Unicum Plc; Danubius Radio (Daily Mail), Graboplast and Rába Plc ; and in 1999 he was a member of the Equinox Private Equity Fund’s Investment Commitee, in cooperation with Advent International. He graduated at the Budapest University of Economics in 1991 and received training at EBRD in project finance in 1993.

Mr. Bajnai has been a senior advisor to the Center for Strategic International Studies (CSIS), member of the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR) a former adjunct professor at Columbia University SIPA and visiting fellow at Johns Hopkins University. He has also been a senior adviser to Antin Infrastructure until September 2014.
