Q&A with Numeric CIO Daniel Taylor

The Investment Management Club is happy to welcome Daniel Taylor, Co-Chief Investment Officer and Head of Hedge Fund Strategies, Man-Numeric Group, to chat with us about his views on the market, quantitative investment industry and investment strategies employed in his successful funds.

Man Group is one of the largest, publicly listed, global alternative investment providers managing around USD 80 billion. Man Group acquired Numeric Investors in 2014, and today Man-Numeric is one of the four major arms of the group. Man-Numeric is fundamentally driven Quantitative Asset Manager successfully managing long-only, active extension, and hedged equity strategies across regions, styles, and capitalisations since 1989.

Dan has had multiple roles at Numeric, including Director of Small Cap Strategies from 2004-2010, Head of Hedge Fund Strategies from 2010-present, member of the Investment Committee from 2004-present, and senior member of the Strategic Alpha Research Team from 2010-2015. He has conducted a wide range of research, including areas such as momentum, earnings quality, valuation, investor behaviour, and market timing. He joined Numeric as an intern in 1998 and began working full time in 1999 after receiving his B.A. in Economics with honours from Harvard University. Dan is a CFA charter holder.
