DIY bike fit
If you are new to cycling and have just bought your new beauty of a bike, we would suggest getting a professional bike fit. However, these are not cheap, so if you decide against it, then it is vital that you spend a short while yourself ensuring that it is set up correctly so not to injure yourself.
All things cycling on You Tube
Global Cycling Network (GCN) is a UK-based cycling channel on You Tube that has hundreds of videos from previews of upcoming races, to interviews/rides with pros, but most valuable is the numerous bike maintenance videos they have for when you're not sure how to fix something and do not fancy forking out £50 at the bike shop.
Cycling shops
For those of you not from London, we thought it would be helpful to provide some guidance on cycling shops in the city (and online).
Evans Cycles - The largest chain bike store with shops all over the UK and a huge range of equipment, including store availability. (N.B. price match with other major stores online and high street).
Cycle Surgery - A slightly smaller equivalent of Evans Cycles (N.B. price match with other major stores online and high street).
Decathlon - The European sports retailer sells bargain cycling gear if you are looking at getting into cycling and do not want to fork out too much. Equally, if you need gloves for this winter riding or a new saddle bag, they provide much cheaper alternatives than regular specialist bike shops.
Wiggle.co.uk - Online only sports store with a great range of cycling stuff and usually fractionally cheaper than Evans Cycles (N.B. price match with other major stores online and high street).
Cadence Performance - Specialist bike stores with state-of-the-art bike fitting and workshop services. Two stores, one in North London and one South London.
Condor Cycles - Similar to Cadence Performance but a Mecca for cyclists in Central London with a shop, fitting and workshop services as well as custom frame-building.
Rapha - The brand that arguably revolutionised cycling style has a number of stores around London, some with cafes showing live UCI bike races. Retailer of high-end cycling equipment and apparel.
Look Mum No Hands! - A cycle cafe located in Shoreditch, they show numerous cycling events on TV served with a side of locally-brewed beer or an espresso. You may even feel inclined to purchase one of their retro cycling caps while there.
