In 2019, Andrés Tapia Villa volunteered at one small event for Fundación Vuela, a Mexican NGO supporting children with cancer. By 2022 he was on the board, and today he’s its treasurer. Along the way he built a ring-fenced safety fund that released money within 48 hours when Vuela’s largest donation was delayed by four months, so an emergency treatment could be paid on time.
His point: none of this is charity work. It’s your professional skills, applied where they’re scarce.
Join the Social Impact Club for our first roundtable of the year with Andrés Tapia Villa and Carlota Froes, who’ll share how they’ve combined their careers with impact through NGO board work.
What we’ll cover:
- Finding the right fit: how to identify an NGO that genuinely needs what you bring, whether that’s finance, strategy, data, operations or marketing
- Delivering value on a board: personal reflections on what actually moves the needle
- Getting started this term: why boards go to people who’ve shown up and delivered, and how to make your first move, whatever your background
You’ll leave with a simple approach: pick a cause that moves you, ask what they’re missing in your field, and offer one skill, not just hours.
