Details
Project Blue’s challenge is now to find the closest habitable planet “Earth Proxima”, which is most likely to be in our nearest star system: Alpha Centauri A and B.
The Technology & Media Club will welcome two NASA scientists and the President of the Board of Project Blue for a presentation about the mission:
- Eduardo Bendek, Mission Lead - PhD. working at NASA Ames ACE Lab
- Ruslan Belikov, Science Lead - PhD. working at NASA Ames ACE Lab
- Pedro Godoy, President of the Board - MSc. and MBA 09, LBS
They will explain how this venture aims to accomplish its ambitious goals on a budget comprising a fraction of the cost for a typical mid-size astrophysics mission; with a planned launch by the end of this decade. They will also tell us about the satellite, the technology and highlight the essential role that active collaboration between research institutions, universities, private industry and citizens plays in advancing the frontiers of science.
The presentation will be followed by drinks and chat with the two NASA scientists and president of Project Blue at the Allsop Arms Pub.
Project Blue is an initiative seeking to find and capture the first image of an Earth-like planet in our neighboring star system Alpha Centauri.
The mission aims to launch a lightweight space telescope to directly image exoplanets around Earth’s nearest star system, Alpha Centauri A and B; and represents an ambitious leap forward in low-cost, high-impact space exploration.
