Emerging Markets Club in conjunction with PECV Club and Net Impact Club are pleased to invite you to a panel discussion event on “Private Equity in Emerging Markets”. We are very excited to present you senior private equity professionals from three different type of private equity institutions and together we will explore the challenges and peculiarities of Private Equity investing in Emerging Markets. The topic will be explored in-depth from three different private equity investing angles:
  1. Supranational development finance – European Bank for Reconstruction and Development
  2. Impact investing – CDC Group
  3. Market driven balance sheet investing – Capital Group Private Markets
The panel event will be followed by a Q&A session.
We will have following speakers on our panel:
  1. Ms. Anne Fossemalle has been the Director in Charge of Equity Funds at the EBRD since 2009. Previously, she was the Director, Bank Equity, responsible for EBRD’s direct investments in banks.  Prior to this appointment, she was a Senior Banker in the Financial Institutions group, where she led various debt and equity transactions with banks, and was responsible for EBRD’s relationship with international banking groups.  She joined EBRD in 1993, as part of the Agribusiness Team, then the Hungary Team, from Natixis in Paris, where she was responsible for loans and equity transactions with large French food companies.
  2. Mr. Mark Pay is Managing Director, Equity Investments at CDC Group. Mark re-joined CDC in 2012 to lead the firm’s plan to increase equity investments. Mark’s career has primarily been in private equity and has encompassed making, developing and exiting investments in Africa, India, the Americas, China and the UK. He has also helped to found and build two private equity businesses, Barclays Ventures, an SME - focused investor in the UK and Actis, a leading PE investor across the emerging markets. He has overseen several funds and, as an Investment Committee member, has been involved in more than a hundred investments and exits in private equity, infrastructure and property funds.
  3. Mr. Umur Hursever is Principal at Capital Group Private Markets with primary responsibility in Emerging Europe, the Middle East and Africa. He has 16 years of investment experience and has been with Capital Group for five years. Prior to joining the Capital Group Private Markets’ team in October 2010, he spent ten years in private equity with CCMP Capital and its predecessor JPMorgan Partners in London focusing on growth capital and LBO investments across Europe. Prior to that, he worked for three years in the M & A group of Salomon Brothers (now part of Citi) in New York and London. Mr. Hursever holds a B.A. in Economics and Mathematics from Macalester College. He is based in London.
