Efficient energy storage mechanisms are viewed as a key element in more widespread use of renewables. This talk by Dr Keith Maclean will highlight the opportunities and challenges in this space including infrastructure, energy markets for renewables and challenges on the regulation front. After all, in the conventional energy space, gas is not only an energy source, but a storage mechanism as well; the equivalent of this function needs to be created for renewables.
Speaker Bio: Dr Keith Maclean is currently Chair of the Energy Research Partnership and Chair of UK Energy Research Centre's Advisory Board. He has been a director of the UK Business Council for Sustainable Energy and its successor, Energy UK, as well as Scottish Renewables, the Micropower Council, British Wind Energy Association (BWEA) and European Wind Eneargy Association (EWEA).
Keith has worked in a broad range of roles in the energy industry and was also responsible for starting-up and running SSE’s telecoms business. For the last 10 years he was SSEs Policy and Research Director. He has acted as an advisor on energy policy to both the UK and Scottish Governments and has been involved in many industry advisory and working groups.
