Jacob Waern is the Founder and CEO at EduMe, a mobile-first microlearning platform.
EduMe is rethinking training in the workplace so that it reflects how we work, where we work and how we consume information. Leading companies, like Uber, Taxify and TiGo, rely on EduMe’s training platform to deliver their services. EduMe is backed by Connect Ventures, whose portfolio includes companies like Citymapper, Typeform and Marvel.
Prior to founding EduMe, Jacob spent more than ten years holding executive roles within the Swedish entrepreneurial investment firm, the Kinnevik Group, specialising in the media, internet and telecoms industries. A Swedish national, Jacob graduated from Copenhagen Business School with a Bachelor’s in International Business, and a Master’s in Applied Economics & Finance.
Jacob will share his story of starting and scaling his company, including iterating the product, performing customer development, fundraising.
Anna Lowe is the co-Founder of Smartify, the app changing the way we explore art and the way museums reconnect with their visitors.
The free app enables audiences to scan and identify artwork using image recognition and AI on their smartphone and benefit from more curated information.
To date, Smartify has partnered with 85 museums and galleries, 16 of which are in the top 100 most visited cultural institutions in the world. These include The Met New York, The Smithsonian, The National Gallery and National Portrait Gallery, London, Saatchi Gallery and many more. Last year Smartify won three Webby Awards (Best Use of Mobile Camera, Best Art/Experimental and People's Choice 2018), the UN World Summit Award for Culture and Tourism 2018, Most Innovative App at the Mobile World Congress 2018.
Anna will share with us her experience of starting and scaling the company, raising funds and the challenges and opportunities for startups within the creative industries, a sector now worth £101.5 billion and growing at twice the rate of the UK economy.
Franz Dörr is the Founder and CEO of flatfair, the fastest growing deposit-free renting solution in the UK, already available in hundreds of letting branches across the country (e.g. through the Spicerhaart network).
With flatfair, landlords can offer tenants the option to pay an affordable membership fee instead of an expensive tenancy deposit. In exchange, flatfair landlords get up to double the protection compared to a deposit (up to 12 weeks worth of rent) and benefit from fewer voids. flatfair’s technology takes away the hassle of managing deposits - from registration, change of sharer to checkout - and pays its partnered letting agents a commission for bringing on new tenants.
Prior to funding flatfair, Franz has extensive experience in consulting and financial services.
Franz will share with us his experience starting his own business and applying his consulting and corporate skills to tackle the problems of his growing startup.
