Want to escape London for a day? Step into one of the UK’s most iconic coastal adventures with a hike along the Seven Sisters cliffs (Seaford → Eastbourne) on Sunday May 31.

The Hike
  • Where: The Seven Sisters chalk cliffs along the East Sussex coast, within the South Downs National Park.
  • Date: Sunday 31 May (day trip from London)
  • Fitness Level: Moderate – suitable for those comfortable hiking 6–7 hours with a day-pack. Terrain is easy underfoot but includes rolling cliff ascents and descents.
  • Distance & Elevation: ~22 km with ~500 m total ascent (max elevation: 162 m at Beachy Head)

Itinerary

  • 09:00 – Train from London Victoria
  • 10:53 – Arrive in Seaford Sussex
  • 11:00 – Hike begins
    • Seaford Head → Cuckmere Haven
    • Seven Sisters → Birling Gap (café stop)
    • Belle Tout → Beachy Head
  • 18:00 – Arrive in Eastbourne (optional fish & chips)
  • 20:00 – Train back to London (arrive ~21:33)

What to Bring

Mandatory:

  • Walking boots / trail shoes (broken in)
  • Waterproof jacket (coastal weather can change quickly)
  • Hiking socks
  • Day backpack (20–30L)
  • 1.5–2L water
  • Lunch + snacks
  • Sunscreen + hat
  • Phone, ID, cash/card

Recommended:

  • Mid-layer (fleece)
  • Sportswear (non-cotton)
  • Waterproof trousers
  • Sunglasses
  • Blister plasters
  • Pain relief (ibuprofen/paracetamol)
  • Spare clothes
  • Swimwear + towel (optional sea dip)
  • Trekking poles (optional)

  • Cost: Free (participants cover their own train tickets)
