Summiting Kilimanjaro Explained:
Kilimanjaro is the world’s largest freestanding mountain, at 5,895m above sea level, and it makes for an epic adventure of a lifetime. For many, climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro is a bucket list item, but with great accolades comes great challenges. Like running a marathon or completing an Iron Man, climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro requires training and discipline. We will offer training and support opportunities leading up to the trek (see “Training” and “After Booking Support” headers below)
- The trek will kick off in Tanzania, where participants will meet their mountain guides and travel together to base camp.
- We will attempt to summit the mountain for 6 days through The Rongai route, sleeping in tents along the way.
- We will be working with a team of local porters who will carry group gear, such as tents/sleeping mats up the mountain and larger individual gear - you will only be responsible for carrying your day packs up the mountain each day.
Trip Cost:
The trip will cost £1,450 per person - this is a highly subsidised trek!
You will need to consider additional costs of Visa (50 USD), tips ($ TBC), special travel insurance, vaccinations, etc.

THE COMPANY
We will be travelling with Landside Adventures, which we hand-selected following first-hand recommendations. They have extensive experience running safe mountain summits all over the world, including Kilimanjaro.
Travel Insurance
Travel insurance is a must, and it should be clear that the maximum altitude is 5,895m. The insurance needs to cover the activity being undertaken, and Mountain Leaders may request a copy of this. Policies should be checked properly before purchasing to ensure they cover everything needed, and if unsure about any policy wording, a proper conversation with the insurer should take place.
Transport
International flights are not included in the cost, so you will need to source these yourself. However, this does allow you some flexibility to stay longer in-country and extend your trip to go sightseeing or on alternative excursions, such as a Safari. All airport transfers and any necessary transport DURING the event are included in the ticket price.
Accommodation
We will spend the entirety of the trek camping in tents along the trail up Kilimanjaro. Tents will be provided as part of the cost, as will B&B accommodation at the base camp before and after the trek. These are normally twin rooms, but single rooms are available at a supplementary cost.
Leaders
Qualified mountain leaders will accompany groups to assist in supporting the group and ensuring the safety and welfare of all clients. The guide to participants is 2 guides to 10 participants. All leaders are qualified mountain leaders with knowledge and experience in leading the trek they are assigned to. They all also have a current first aid certificate and will carry a group first aid kit and any other relevant emergency kit.
Training
There will be a local (UK) training weekend where you can meet the group you will be travelling with, try out any of your kits, and spend a couple of days walking and learning about what to expect when you arrive in-country.
Certificates
After completing the trek, all group members are provided with a certificate to prove they took part in the event.
If you have any questions, please reach out directly to Sara Adam or another member of the Expedition Club leadership team!
