The world’s political scenario has been drastically evolving over the past few years. Specifically, European politics is witnessing waves of populist movements that are gaining momentum and approval in many countries. Italy's coalition government is made up by the populist Five Star Movement and the anti-migration League party and, according to Steve Bannon (Strategic Counselor to Donald Trump), represents the current "center of the 21th century political universe". Italian government clashed with Bruxelles for proposing a draft budget that includes increase government spending on welfare while also cutting taxes. This political turmoil is currently unnerving investors, pushing Italian borrowing costs to the highest level since 2014.

The Italian Club is delighted to invite you to explore the roots of populism in Europe and develop a deeper understanding of how this political wave is reshaping the Old Continent while impacting its economy, finance and business.

We will have the pleasure to host the following speakers:
• Leopoldo Attolico, Italy Country Officer at Citi
• Tony Barber, Europe Editor at Financial Times
• Alberto Magnani, Editor at Il Sole 24 Ore
