This information session introduces the special purpose acquisition company (SPAC) investment model to aspiring investors interested in this asset class. In a nutshell, a SPAC is a listed corporation designed to take companies public without going through the traditional IPO process. SPACs can be seen as an interesting hybrid between private and public market transactions, with retail investors being able to participate. In the first 9 months of 2020, US SPACs raised $41.7b — 44% of all public offerings (Financial Times).

The event will be hosted by Charles McIntyre, CEO & Co-Founder of IBIS Capital. Charles' experience has been in building businesses in a number of industry sectors including financial services, media, media tech and most recently edtech. He co-founded IBIS Capital in 2003 in order to create a flexible, boutique investment bank that could both invest in and advise companies and their shareholders. 17 years on and IBIS Capital has evolved into a leading specialist asset manager and investment banking operation with over 70 successfully completed transactions.

IBIS’ EdTechX Holdings Acquisition Corp was the world's first SPAC floated on the US NASDAQ stock exchange focused on Education Technology and Training sectors. EdTechX Holdings completed its first transaction with the acquisition of the largest adult English language training business in China in March of this year. IBIS has recently filed for a second SPAC IPO, again focused on assets in the Education and Training sectors with enterprise values ranging from $400m to $2bn.
