Walpole Programme in Luxury Management

 

Following a successful inaugural year of the Walpole Programme in Luxury Management at London Business School, Walpole joined a meeting of the LBS Retail and Luxury Goods Club on Wednesday, September 17, 2014 to officially introduce the 2014/15 Programme. Mark Henderson, Walpole board director, Chairman of Gieves & Hawkes and Chair of the Programme, addressed over 100 members of the Club, garnering plenty of interest before applications officially open in mid-October.

Programme Overview

The programme will deliver a rigorous foundation of academic learning and professional development, which is fused with unrivalled practitioner knowledge and industry insight to support students in building both the experience and networks required to be successful in the luxury industry.

Industry Practitioner Lecture Series

To complement the MBA curriculum, students can gain a deep understanding of the luxury industry through a dedicated series of practical lectures delivered by senior executives at Walpole companies and developed in conjunction with London Business School faculty. Speakers for 2013/14 included:

  • Jonathan Ackeroyd - President and CEO of Alexander McQueen
  • Michael Ward - Managing Director of Harrods
  • Jonathan Heilbron - President and CEO of Thomas Pink
  • Nick Temperley - Head of Diageo’s Reserve Brands in Britain
  • Ian Tansley - the Managing Director of MR PORTER & VP Ecommerce at Net a Porter Group
  • Mark Henderson - Chairman of Gieves & Hawkes
  • Gillian de Bono - the editor of Financial Times How to Spend It magazine
  • Dr. Frederik Mostert, Chief Legal Counsel at Richemont
  • Mary Bagnall, Intellectual Property Partner at Law Firm Charles Russell
  • Dr. Mike Rugg-Gunn, Director of international executive search firm Norman Broadbent

Mentoring

Students on the programme will be assigned a mentor – a senior executive from within the Walpole membership. The mentor will provide guidance and networking opportunities to maximise the learning opportunities. Mentors for 2013/14 included:
