The 2016 Rolex MBA Regatta is now only a few months away! The event starts Thursday September 29th with welcome drinks, with races starting Friday 30 September.  The event is organized by SDA Bocconi business school, and Yacht Club Italiano, and takes place in the super- picturesque Ligurian coast of Italy at Santa Margherita di Ligure.

Spots will be available on a first come first serve basis for B-team sailors. A-team sailors are hand picked by the club to create the most competitive student boat possible.

400 students from 20+ school from around the world (including asian and american business schools) compete in this event.

Here's a video if you have no idea what I am talking about watch this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W9Upq7xfm10

The A Division is split between Beneteau 36.7 and Jeanneau Sunfast 37 yachts, who race on Friday and Saturday before the top boats face off on J80s in a match racing finale. The B division is made up of a mixture of boats who sail without spinnakers under a handicap system. The LBS A Team will be competitive and is for experienced sailors. The B Team is typically not competitive (although will stay participate in the B-division races) and is open on a lottery system.

If you are at all interested in this event don't hesitate to drop me a line now. MIT has won the last two years in a row. We have enough talent in the student body that I think we can give them a run for their money this year.

Schedule

The event opens Thursday 29 September. Thursday practice starts at 1400 and is not mandatory. Races are on Friday, Saturday and Sunday with events each evening. Last year many of us stayed and went home Sunday morning.

Tickets Available

Everyone will go onto the waitlist, and I will promote people from the waitlist. Once moved off the waitlist you will have 4 days to make payment before your spot is passed onto the next person on the list.

I don't know how many tickets Bocconi will let us have but we are pushing for 28.

Prize

The last two years in a row MIT has won the gold Rolex. It needs to be us this year!

I also think there is proseco as prizes, in addition to free proseco each night.

Cost

495 pounds per person. This will be collected seperately.

The cost is approximate (hopefully the pound recovers in the next 30 days in which case I can provide a refund of the difference). Likely to be less, but there is currently some exchange rate instability around the pound and we haven't calculated everything just yet, so we are rounding up. Cost includes team jersey, some misc items, event entry and boat rental for three days. (Thursday to Sunday).

Accommodation

Cost doesn't include housing. You can stay on the boat for free, or you can join in splitting a large villa like we did last year. The housing cost will be handled seperately.

Partners

Partners can come and attend the events. There is a separate price for them to sign up for only the social activities. I cannot guarantee non-students a place on a boat though. When we get closer to the date if there are empty spots on one of our boats, I am happy to open it up.

Flights

You can fly to Genoa (quite close) or Milan. I believe Firenze is also not too far. Book early as prices get expensive nearer the event.
