2021 ULI Hines Student Competition – Europe
We are delighted to announce that LBS has been invited to participate in yet another year of the ULI Hines Student Competition – Europe, an exciting new opportunity for graduate students to work in teams to engage in a challenging exercise in responsible land use. The competition, which was established in the U.S. in 2002, was launched in Europe in 2020 and saw the participation of outstanding students, showcasing their work to top real estate industry leaders. Take a look at the video, and get excited!
The competition, which will take place on Wednesday, 21 April 2020 at an as yet undisclosed European university (LBS is on the shortlist!), and will see teams of four from competing universities spend the day working on a case study that tests their understanding of real estate finance and investment, development and urban issues, to present a solution for a timely land use challenge. The day will culminate in each team presenting their solution to a jury of senior industry professionals followed by an evening drinks reception to announce the winners.
Finalist students will gather in the host city on Tuesday, 20 April 2021, to get to know each other and attend a tour of a site related to the theme of the case study. All participating finalist student teams from outside the host city will have their reasonable travel and one night’s accommodation expenses covered.
(Naturally, we are constantly monitoring the evolution of the current crisis, and in case the public health situation, travel restrictions and lockdowns prevent student teams from gathering in a European city, the competition will be held in a hybrid/virtual format on Wednesday, 21 April 2021.)
The winning team members will receive:
· A fast-track to the Hines internship programme;
· A guided tour of a live project and participation in project meetings in Hines European offices (as travel restrictions allow);
· A one-year ULI membership – providing access to research content, events, webinars, education and mentorship programmes, knowledge sharing and connections with a multidisciplinary global network of real estate and land use professionals.
The first stage of the competition requires teams to submit a pre-qualification questionnaire, a short video and the CVs of each team member, by 23:59 CET 31 January 2021. Submissions will be reviewed by the ULI, Hines and a group of senior industry professionals, with a maximum of eight teams selected for the final stage in April.
