Dinghy Sailing Qualifications

Dinghies are smaller sailing boats that do not have a cabin. Unlike yachts, dinghies can be sailed by just one (single-handed) or two (double-handed) people. They are more readily available for rent at boating bases.

In order to be able to rent a small boat and sail without an instructor, as well as participate in races, an RYA Level 2 certification is sufficient. It can be obtained over two 2-day courses or equivalent. Specific information can be found on the RYA website.

Want to get your dinghy certification? LBS Sailing Club is partnering with Westminster Boating Base to deliver RYA Levels 1 & 2 Dinghy training! Located just 20 minutes from LBS, you will be able to rent a dinghy by yourself after completion! Use your LBS email and get 10% off by booking both levels in one day and 15% if you are also under 23! Sign up here.

Already have your Level 2? Head down to the Westminster Boating Base at any of these sailing times. Make sure to have proper gear if planning to sail in the winter season!
